Private Practice Consultations

During my time at Rollins, I completed two internships.  One was at an alternative high school called Community Education Partners, where I worked with at-risk adolescents on issues such as self-esteem, anger management, life transitions, and relationship issues.  I also co-lead a grief and loss group for adolescent girls.

My second internship was completed at La Amistad Behavioral Health Services, a residential treatment center for adults. During my time at La Amistad, I worked with many different mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and trauma.  I also co-lead trauma, grief and loss, spirituality, and substance abuse groups.

An additional part of my specialty includes working with individuals who have been or are in the caregiving role for a spouse, parent, child, or friend suffering from an illness or disability, as this role can be emotionally challenging and emotionally draining.  

I believe that therapy is an individual experience, so at Healing with Time, all therapy is tailored to the client's specific needs and goals.  Their current and past experiences are taken into account when planning the course of treatment, and therapy moves at a speed the client is comfortable with.  I use an eclectic approach to therapy, but my therapeutic approach is based in Existential, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Reality Therapy principles and techniques.

In 2010 I became an EFT Practitioner.  The Emotional Freedom Technique helps clients who feel "stuck" in their current treatment, by clearing negative energy, thus helping them move forward in their healing.  I have seen great success when using this technique with many different mental health concerns, including grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, fears, and self-esteem issues.  In 2011, I completed Level 3 of the EFT Training, which has strengthened my skills as an EFT Practitioner. I continue to see amazing results with clients who request EFT in their sessions and I believe this has been a wonderful addition to my work as a mental health counselor.

I strongly believe in community education and advocacy, and have been a guest speaker at various support groups around the community on the topic of grief and loss.

I serve as the membership co-chair on the board for the Eating Disorder Network of Central Florida, belong to the Collaborative for End of Life and Grief Education, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Mental Health Counselors of Central Florida, The American Counseling Association, and The National Honor Society in Psychology, Psi Chi.

I am actively involved with Project Wings, USA, Inc, advocating for the rights, education, and provision of resources for special needs families, and am part of their online resource center.

In 2009 I began writing a book about my journey through grief after my mom's death. My hope for this book is that it inspires other girls who have lost their moms that although the journey through grief is scary and painful, healing is possible. Sometimes, by living in the grief and learning from it, a person can come out on the other side, and emerge the new person that the loss has created.
